Ciena Waveserver Installation

This is a concise guide to the physical installation of a Ciena Waveserver in our data center here in Dallas. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Cut the zip ties and remove the rear bracket from the Waveserver by unscrewing the side bolts.

Install the right and left frame mounting brackets to the Waveserver chassis. Then install the frame-mounting brackets near the front .

Assemble the front and rear rails. Insert the end of a rear rail into the end of a front rail, adjust the assembly to between 28 and 32 inches in length as required for the frame, and secure the rail assembly.

Install the rail assemblies onto the equipment frame/rack. Notice we’re only utilizing the top and bottom screws in the rail assembly to start.

Install the Waveserver into the rail mount. Once it’s comfortably set, you can then screw the frame-mounting bracket into the rack.

Remove the guards from ports 2,3,10, and 11. There should be 4 optic modules that you will use on these ports. The modules should be found with the remaining Waveserver hardware.

The optic modules will be installed into these ports and look similar to this:

Once you have inserted the optic modules, you can then install fiber into ports 2,3,10, and 11.

Plug in your DCN to Fa0/23 on swc-lx-3n3.

The patch panel needs to be installed above the Waveserver as shown.

Remove the port guards on the back of the patch panel and connect to the same ports 2/3 and 10/11.  These need to be corresponding with the ports from the front of the Waveserver.
